This poker form was very popular in the 80s but has been surpassed in a big way by Texas Hold.em. However, it.s still a very fun game that a lot of people enjoy playing. A good memory is required if you want to be a successful Seven-Card Stud player.
The object of Seven-Card Stud is to form the strongest possible hand using the seven cards you are dealt. There are no community cards in this game but four of the cards you get are open for everyone to see. Seven-Card-stud differs from Texas Hold.em in some other ways. There are five betting rounds instead of four and there are no fixed positions at the table. The betting order in Seven-Card Stud is determined by the value of the players face up cards.
How to play a hand in Seven-Card Stud
Third Street
Before the game starts all the players at the table places an obligatory ante. Then each player is dealt three cards, two facing down and one facing up. The player with the lowest face up card is forced to make an opening bet called .Bring In.. After that the betting continues clockwise around the table and all the players have the option to call, raise or fold.
Fourth Street
When the first betting round is done all the players left in the hand is dealt another face up card. This is called .Fourth Street.. In contrast to the previous betting round the player with the highest card is forced to open the betting. After that, the betting follows the same procedure as on Third Street.
Fifth Street
When the second betting round is done all the players left in the hand is dealt another face up card. This is called .Fifth Strett.. In this round the player with the highest face up cards (three of a kind is the highest possible) opens the betting. After that, the betting follows the same procedure as in the previous rounds.
Sixth Street
When the third betting round is done all the players left in the hand is dealt another face up card. This is called .Sixth Street.. The betting in this round follows the same procedure as on Fifth Street.
Seventh Street
When the fourth betting round is done all the players left in the hand is dealt another card, but this time it.s face down. This is called .Seventh Street. or .The River.. In total, the players now have three cards facing down and four facing up in front of them. The player with the highest face up cards opens the betting in this round. After that, the betting follows the same procedure as in the previous rounds. When all the players are finished the player who was last to bet or raise shows his cards. The other remaining players reveal their cards if they have a better hand, otherwise they have the option to muck their cards. The best poker hand wins the pot. However, if a bet or raise that wasn.t called was made that player wins the pot without having to reveal his hand.
