Casino etiquette
I think we all can agree that gambling at an online casino can be a lot of fun. And since you’re visiting GamingGurus.com I have a feeling that you’ve been laying your fair share of bets over the Internet. But have you ever gambled at an old-fashioned brick-and-mortar casino? Chances are good you have not. When online gamblers email me, it’s surprising how often they tell me that they’ve never played at a “real” casino. Some of them even express that they feel a bit intimidated by the prospect of doing so.
Perhaps playing at a casino like The Mirage in Las Vegas or The Gala in London can appear a bit scary if your only gambling experiences come from, say, Casino On Net. But fear not. There are very few, if any, differences when it comes to the actual rules. And if you keep reading this column you will know everything about casino etiquette!
What you need to know about how to behave in a casino can actually be summed up in five bullet points:
- Never strike up a conversation with the dealer. The dealer must constantly keep an eye on the game to make sure that no one is cheating. If you try and talk to the dealer – a common trick among cheating players – chances are good that the dealer will ignore you. If you need help, contact one of the pit managers instead. It’s their job to talk to players.
- Never give money directly to the dealer. Security rules prohibit the dealer from taking anything from your hand, purse, or pocket. A dealer is also not allowed to shake hands with you. This is another measure to prevent money from exchanging hands.
- Never throw money or chips on the table. If you throw your chips on the table, this can cause other players’ chips to end up in the wrong place. If you’re unable to reach the place on the table where you want to put your chips, let the dealer know where you want them. The dealer will then repeat your request before he or she places the chips in the correct place.
- Never touch another player’s chips. If you want to put your chips on top of another player’s chips you should notify the dealer about the situation before you do anything.
- Always leave room for people who wants to play if you are only a spectator.
Remember these five things and you are guaranteed to not make a fool of yourself when you visit a brick-and-mortar casino. If you want to win some money while you are in there, you should study some of our casino strategy articles before you go.
