Exclusive casinos in the world
In my column last month I tried to give you a crash course in casino etiquette, giving you tips about what to do and what not to do when gambling at a brick-and-mortar casino. And now that you know all about how to play, I feel that it is about time I let you know where to play.
Over the years I have played at some of the most exclusive casinos in the world. Today I will share some of those experiences with you. Since many of you already have been to Las Vegas I will focus on casinos that are not in Sin City.
- Luxor, Las Vegas
Ok, so I was not able to completely disregard from that ever growing city in the middle of the Nevada desert. If I only could play at one casino for the rest of my life I would accept that with a smile and gamble away at the Luxor. The casino is shaped like an Egyptian pyramid and an enormous sphinx is guarding the building. The casino area measures an impressive 120,000 square feet.
- Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas
Surrounded by white beaches and an inviting ocean, Paradise Island is the perfect spot to recreate the myth of the lost island of Atlantis. This is exactly what Sun International decided to do in 1998. The company spent a whopping $850,000,000 and among other things created a labyrinth under water with plenty of Atlantis inspired relics. The resort consists of four separate hotels and 38 restaurants. To let you enjoy the pleasant climate the casino lets you gamble outdoors.
- Monte Carlo, Monaco
Among European casinos, Monte Carlo in Monaco is my favorite. It is difficult not to feel part of history when you are gambling in a casino that is almost 150 years old (Monte Carlo was founded in 1863). The architect behind this la belle époque masterpiece is Charles Garnier, who also designed the opera house in Paris. If you feel like dining with style when you are in Monte Carlos you have plenty of options. My favorite is Les Privés, a restaurant with a great view of the ocean. It is worth noting that in order to gamble here guys need to wear ties.
Sky City, Auckland, New Zealand
When I made a trip down under recently I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality casinos I visited. Crown Casino and Jupiters in Australia were both great places. My favorite, however, was Sky City in New Zealand. Sky City is the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere and needless to say the view is absolutely astonishing. Do yourself a favor and check out the place at sunrise or sunset if you get a chance. The casino is open 24/7 and offers all the traditional casino games. Guys need to wear a sports coat.
