The main event of the World Championship of Online Poker at Poker Stars was played earlier this week. The guaranteed price for the event was set to $3 Million, but with 2,510 entrants the total price pool exceeded $6 Million!
Internet poker is really hot right now, which was proven by the 2,510 people putting up $2,500+$100 each to enter the WCOOP main event. Taken home the whole event after 13 hours of play was well-known poker pro J.C. “area23JC” Tran.
Many people were watching the final table action including Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Katja Thater, and Tom McEvoy, who were also commenting the game.
The chip leader when the final play started was hannibalrex ($5.8 million), in second place lefort ($4.5 million), and third area23JC ($4 million). DEEZZZ_NUTZ and Numie2 held the shortest stacks, but both of them managed to get back into the game.
The first two to go were serb2127, who finished ninth ($79,065) and Milkybarkid in eighth place ($119,225). Anette_15 took a real bad beat and was also sent packing. She raised it up preflop and was re-raised all in by Lefort. Anette_15 called with her last chips holding 99. Things looked really good when Lefort showed 65s, but that was before the flop which came 743. Lefort flopped a straight and Annete_15 finished seventh earning $163,150.
The last six players asked to have the game paused to discuss a possible deal and a chop in accordance with the size of the stacks was agreed upon. J.C. Tran was the chip leader and got $620,194. The tournament started again with $50,000 and a WCOOP gold bracelet still in the pot.
DEEZZZ_NUTS ended up in fifth place. He held 66 and went all in preflop. GODFATHER 72 called with QQ. The board was no help and DEEZEEE_NUTS was out in sixth place earning $353,164.
Numie2 was the next to go. He went all in holding AK on a KT9 flop. Tran called with a set of nines and it was all over for Numie2, who got $600,042 for fifth place.
GOODFATHER 72 was knocked out making an ill-timed bluff. He moved all in with the board showing J76J. Leford quickly called with pocket sevens for a full house. Because of the previous deal Lefort got $540,793 for fourth place.
Lefort’s big stack wasn’t to much help and he quickly lost it again. He was sent to the ropes when he went all in with A7s. Hannibalrex called with pocket fives. Lefort didn’t manage to improve and finished third winning $411,734.
It was time for heads up play between J.C. Tran (who had a 3 to 1 chip lead) and hannibalrex. In the very first hand hannibalrex raised preflop and Tran called. The flop came K52 and J.C. checked. Hannibalrex bet and Tran called. 4 came on the turn. Tran checked once again and hannibalrex bet. Tran went all in and hannibalrex called holding A4. Tran had K9 and the top pair. When the river card was blank it was all over. Hannibal rex earned $400,581 for his second place finish.
The WCOOP champion 2006 is J.C. Tran, winning $670,194 and a gold bracelet. He was congratulated by his friend and WSOP champion Joe Hachem.
