Omaha Poker

Omaha is a poker form that is more popular in Europe than in the United States. It.s an exiting game with many high ranking hands and a lot of action. Some calculating skills and a good strategy is required to be successful. Omaha is usually played with pot limit structure.

The object of Omaha is to form the strongest possible poker hand by combining your four pocket cards with the five community cards placed face up on the table. You have to use two of your own cards and three of the community cards to form your hand. There are four betting rounds in which the players make there moves.

How to play a hand in Omaha

The Blinds

The blinds are obligatory bets that are made before the cards have been dealt. The player to the left of the dealer enters the small blind and the player to his left puts in the big blind. You know the dealer from the Dealer Button that is placed in front of him. This position is also known as .on the button.. The big blind is always twice as big as the small blind.

Pre-Flop

After the blinds have been placed each player is dealt four cards face down. The player to the left of the big blind starts the action in the first betting round. His options are calling (the amount of the big blind), raising or folding. Then each player gets to act and if no one has made a raise the big blind closes the betting round. If there has been a raise every player still in the hand player has a chance to respond to this by folding, calling or re-raising.

The Flop

When the first betting is done three cards are placed face up on the table. These are called .The Flop. and are common to all the players at the table. If the small blind is still playing, he starts the action in this betting round. Then the turn goes clockwise to each player that didn.t fold before the flop.

The Turn

When the second betting round is done another open card is placed on the table. This is called .The Turn.. The betting on the turn follows the same procedure as on the flop. It starts with the small blind and then all the other players get to act.

The River

When the third betting round is done the fifth and final face up card is placed on the table. This is called .The River.. The betting in this round follows the same procedure as in the two preceding ones. When all the players are done the player who was last to bet or raise shows his cards. The other players show their cards if they have a better hand, otherwise they have the option to muck their cards. The best poker hand wins the pot. However, if a bet or raise that wasn.t called was made that player wins the pot without having to show his hand.

When the hand is over the Dealer Button moves one step to the left and when the blinds are placed the next hand can begin.
