Super System

by Doyle Brunson

This book is known as a poker bible. When it came out in the late 70s it angered many professional poker players. Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson was accused of giving away too much information and the pros claimed that they would lose the edge they had over the amateurs.

Of course many poker books have been published since Super System. Some of the concepts in it have aged but it still stands its ground pretty well. It covers many different forms of poker and the many hand examples are easy to understand and very informative. The chapter on playing No Limit Texas Hold’EM has a truly unique approach. One thing that’s not so great about the book is that it’s poorly organized which makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for.

But even if you don’t want to base your poker game on the strategies presented in Super System it’s still worth reading. The two times (1976 and 1977) world champion Brunson lively describes the history of the game and has many fascinating stories to tell.
