Theory of Poker

by David Sklansky

Described by many as a must read if you want to improve your poker game. David Sklansky introduces the reader to the fundamentals of poker which can be applied on virtually any variation of the game. Many different topics are discussed in the book: the value of deception, bluffing, raising, slow-playing, the importance of position, the psychological aspects of poker, heads-up play, game theory, implied odds, the free card, semibluffing and much more.

No single playing form is in focus in this book but the theories presented are still very useful to any dedicated poker player, whether they prefer Texas Hold’EM or Five Card Stud. One downside is that the text is highly theoretical and probably difficult for a less experienced player to understand.

The author David Sklansky is considered to be one of the top authorities on gambling in the world today. He has written several books and also produced two videos on the subject. Sklansky also does consulting work for casinos, Internet gaming sites, and gaming device companies.
