Cheating and collusion

Poker is more likely to be visited by cheaters than any other game because the money involved. While playing online you don’t have to worry about someone dealing from the bottom of the deck or peaking at your cards. What you have to worry about are players who play as a team, uses more than one computer, abuses the all-in protection or advanced robots, also known as bots.

Players who have teamed up can gain an edge by sitting down at the same table and give each other information about their hands and bet in specific patterns to take the opponents money. This type of cheating is called collusion and can be a serious problem if the cheaters know how to play exactly. Many colluders have no idea how to cheat so as to really get an edge. The most likely scenario is that two cheaters will lose instead of cleaning up the table by using this method.

Players who use two computers and two different identities while still playing at one table, is a more dangerous way of cheating. Luckily the established poker rooms have many weapons that enable them to catch cheats and also the other players do report suspicious behavior as should you.

The all-in protection abuse is mentioned above and can not be abused for a long period of time before the poker room will find out about it. Every site allows only a few number of all-ins per day.

Robots or bots as they are called might become a big problem for online poker in the future, when they are much more sophisticated than they are today. Bots have the potential of never doing a mathematical error and play non-stop 24/7. Bots are harder to catch but the sites have their ways of finding them. The bots of today do not affect your game in any other way than a good player at the table would have. It can’t affect the outcome of the cards or play in a manner that makes you win or lose more than you should have.
